Brushstrokes Community Project delivers health inclusion and wellbeing support to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants who face significant barriers to accessing healthcare. Many of the people we support experience poor physical and mental health linked to trauma, poverty, insecure housing and social isolation. We help individuals to register with GPs and access primary care, understand how the NHS works, and attend health appointments. Our team works closely with NHS partners and community health services to improve access for people who may be excluded due to language barriers, immigration status or lack of documentation. Brushstrokes also delivers outreach health support, including engagement with people living in temporary and contingency accommodation, to identify unmet health needs and provide early support before issues escalate. Alongside access to services, we promote preventative health and wellbeing through activities such as wellbeing walks, gardening and nature‑based sessions, and safe social spaces that reduce isolation and support mental wellbeing. Through this work, Brushstrokes helps to reduce health inequalities, improve confidence in using health services, and support people to live healthier, more stable lives within their local communities.
