These classes are aimed to improve English, in terms of speaking and writing. The level of the classes are Pre-Entry – Entry Level 1. The course content includes: 1) Initial Assessment 2) Getting to know each other/Contact Details 3) Topics: • All About Me • Daily Life • Out and About • Shopping – local markets/supermarkets • Where I live – getting the bus/trains • Accessing Local Services – Job Centre, library, post office & emergency services • Healthcare – GP, health checks, dentist and awareness of health issues • Technology in our lives • Me and my child’s education – talking to teachers at schools, colleges etc. • Things I want to do • Employability – job interviews, applying for jobs, phone calls and speaking at work 4) Short Assessments 5) Extra learning such as Local Courses/ Applying for a course The class timings are 10:00am to 12:00pm. Class timetables for students are Mondays and Thursdays. #SLN

About the organisation

One stop resource delivering community service in health, education, employment and leisure. The Smethwick Youth and Community Centre offers welfare advice and guidance, money management, employment support, and sports and recreation activities such as yoga and football. It also offer English classes and IT classes to enhance people's chances of employment.
